Interdisciplinary scientific and public forum. Preliminary program

  • to the 300th anniversary of the death of Hetman Ivan Skoropadsky, the founder and warden of the St.Haralampius Monastery in Hamaliivka (Sumy Region, Ukraine;

  • to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pavlo Skoropadsky, the last Hetman of all Ukraine;

  • in connection with the grand opening of Pavlo Skoropadsky Memorial in Hamaliivka;

  • and to the Day of the city of Shostka

Interdisciplinary scientific-practical and public Forum: "The Legacy of the Ukrainian Hetmanate" (2-3 September, 2022)

The organizers: Shostka City Administration, Atasov Film Travel film production studio with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, National TV channel "Suspilne", Ukrainian State Film Agency.

The main topics of the Forum

I. The revival of St.Haralampius Monastery: cultural, historical, socio-economic, legal, state-building, organizational aspects and the impact on socio-economic development of the region.

  • Cultural significance of the Haralampi Monastery

  • Historical value and architectural features of the complex of buildings

  • Problems of combining the status of the state architectural reserve, the monastery and the National Pantheon of Ukrainian statesmen - legal and organizational aspects

  • Determining the priorities and stages of action to restore the monastery

  • The influence of the revival of the monastery and the establishment of the National Pantheon on the strengthening of national identity of the Ukrainians

  • The impact on the socio-economic development of Shostka district: infrastructure, tourism, jobs, etc.

ІІ. State-building heritage of the Ukrainian hetmanate: unique state-building experience and its significance for the present of Ukraine

  • Hetmanate as a unique Ukrainian form and experience of self-government of the first quarter of the XVIII century

  • The features and significance of the hetmanship of Ivan Skoropadsky (1708-1722)

  • State-building efforts of Pavlo Skoropadsky in Ukraine and in exile: theoretical and fundamental principles and models of government (1918-1945)

III. Celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky, historical memory and memorial events

  • Reburial of the body of the last hetman and the prospect of establishing a National Pantheon of Ukrainian statesmen on the basis of the monastery

  • The symbolic significance of the reburial of Pavlo Skoropadsky

  • The establishment of the National Pantheon of Ukrainian statesmen: problems, prospects, the influence on society.

  • The events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pavlo Skoropadsky

  • Living descendants of Pavlo Skoropadsky: ways to return and unite with Ukraine

During the forum, the premiere screening of the documentaries "The Hetman's Heritage" and "Monastery Prison Bars" will be arranged for the audience and further discussion.

The program of the Forum includes a sightseeing tour of the St.Haralampius Monastery and the opening ceremony of the Pavlo Skoropadsky Memorial with the participation of the Mayor of Shostka Mykola Noga and the third President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko.

Upon completion of the scientific and cultural part: informal communication and a ceremonial buffet

The Forum participants: scientists, experts in history, culture, architecture, law, regional studies, artists, representatives of local communities, government and self-government, public figures, clergy.
